This is ludicrous. I have friends who have been renting because they literally can’t find appropriate single family housing to buy. This kind of development is not only completely inappropriate for this location, but it is NOT NEEDED. We need more affordable, single family housing in neighborhoods of other single family houses. If we don’t start prioritizing that kind of development, the town will cease to be a draw for long term residents.

Noooooo. Stick to the comp plan and keep the neighborhood zoning as it is. Increased traffic would be a nightmare, a hotel near the school is a terrible idea. High density housing belongs in the student apartment areas, not this well loved quiet neighborhood.

This would dramatically change the neighborhood and the traffic on airport road, especially near the school. There is no way of guaranteeing that the new residents would be respectful of the school, its property, or the children.

Keep this R4 for sure ! That said, I find it hilarious that most people I recognize here were ok, with a politician from Pennsylvania cramming the voter rolls with VT students to get elected, using questionable FOIA, requests to get students mobile numbers to register and remind them on election day to vote, assisted by a progressive tech group out of California. You were ok with it just because he is a democrat. Very smart strategy to pick off a seat. I am not making a commentary on who won or lost, but my point is, when it suits you, you are ok handing over the town to VT and related parties that want to influence our town council and local politicians for their own purposes ( gated community , game day houses etc. )
Be careful what you wish for, moving forward, leveraging students in this fashion will be standard procedure for all campaigns. All that said, this petition is spot on, the development is contrary to the master plan and will be burdensome to the current infrastructure and not in keeping with the neighborhood. A gated community will be off putting and a negative reality for a very rare family neighborhood.

Last year we were told (at the Town Council chambers) that Lester "talked to Virginia Tech" and that Tech was expanding and needed more student and faculty housing. This year we were told (at the fire station) that Lester "talked to the city" and that "the city" thought these plans were a great idea. Well, we are NOT a city. I wonder who was talking to Lester. Not the town council members for sure. Over 100 families live in Airport Acres. We represent one of the best, most inclusive, cohesive, family oriented neighborhoods and it is OUR VOICES that should be heard. Surely this neighborhood can be sensitively and sustainably expanded with more modest single-family homes, a regular street centered on the property, preservation of existing trees/wildlife habitat and conformance with R4 zoning requirements.
