I have felt so lucky to be raising my two-year old in this neighborhood, and have been looking forward to sending her to Beeks in a few years. If this development goes forward, however, the neighborhood will no longer be family friendly. We need to protect and improve our established communities in Blacksburg -- not undermine them. These kinds of developments will make Blacksburg a much less desirable place to live.

I would not oppose rezoning for the right Planned Residential project, but this is not it. This property should allow pedestrian and bike access from Airport to First and Main, not be private for owners who can afford an $800,000 home. As a MBE parent, I ask the town to keep these properties zoned R-4.

This is one of the most desirable locations for families looking for an affordable, safe neighborhood within walking distance to the elementary school. Affordable housing is so lacking in this town as it is. Let's focus on building affordable single family homes.

I oppose the plan to rezone this area to Planned Residential. I think keeping this zone a low-density residential area is important to maintaining the character and quality of life of that area of the town, and a Planned Residential zone would be less-compatible with the adjacent Elementary School.

This development is not in keeping with the surrounding community. It's bad enough a hotel has been allowed behind Beeks, please don't exacerbate the problem by allowing condos. I don't live in Airport Acres but it is one of the very few affordable, family friendly neighborhoods left in town.

Build housing where locals can live. These units are priced for out-of-towner's to buy for luxury football weekend condos. No gates - make the bike trail go through.

I oppose the change to the zoning in this neighborhood. The neighborhood has a delightful "small town" feel which would be ruined by this type of development. It would also increase traffic near a school and the surrounding area, all negatives for this part of town.

Change is important and so is tradition and community. Let Blacksburg enjoy a community in the Airport Road neighborhood with small homes and a feeling of warmth, not a suburban sprawl in the heart of town. If this type of construction begins, when do the other smaller and more affordable homes get torn down so we can eliminate more of the historically important older sections of town?
