I totally agree that a 2nd GPA should be provided on student's transcripts. Not only do our students lose merit scholarship money but also lose discounts on good student car insurance credits.

As a college professor at New York University, I can say with some authority that providing information in a way that ensures maximum transparency with respect to a school's system for evaluating students is far more superior to a system that explicitly chooses the opposite and undermines the perceived credibility of that system in the process.

This is a lawsuit waiting to happen. those who should be awarded merit aid and aren't due to a flawed GPA weighting system have a real case on their hands against Hingham public Schools if this isn't remedied after they know full well of its consequences.

My two cents...Universities use weighted GPAs for class rank, true, but they use unweighted GPAs to compare applicants to each other. In this respect, Hingham is on point with their policy. As of 2015 only the university system of CA were using weighted GPAs.. I have 2 HHS grads who are also college grads. Admissions counsellors at the time my kids were applying addressed the GPA issue by stating my previous point..Colleges do know HHS. Our kids graduate very well prepared for even the most competitive colleges. Their writing and organization skills are known in the college world.
Lets try to remember that our kids are more than a GPA and to try not to stress.It's not easy!

Please consider changing the current HHS GPA scale to reflect what most high school across the country use. Or at the very least communicate the difference between HHS and the 4.0 scale to colleges. Thank you.

This is a no brainer. The 4.0 system has its own flaws (why not just use the 100 point scale that teachers use anyway), but since most high schools and colleges use the 4.0 scale, Hingham should not be an outlier.

Thank you for starting this crusade. As my last child becomes a senior this is something that has bothered me for years and I believe affected my oldest daughter greatly in her college search.
