As the parent of a 2017 graduate and an incoming freshman, I find the current GPA system to be convolute and unnecessary. Based on the current system if my daughter got all B's in regular classes she would have a higher GPA than my son who takes some honors classes along with regular classes. It makes no sense. The system basically punishes the student for doing well in a class.

Hingham administration often says colleges know our school. But if your student happens to want to attend a school that doesn't know Hingham this grading system can affect admission and scholarship. Our students that have a 3.3-3.5 would have had closer to a 4.0 in a NY comparable tri-state area school. As much as the administration says it does not matter--it does!

The current GPA system is hurting Hingham Students chances of getting into the best schools. I wonder if we could do a net present value calculation of not only the lost scholarship money, but of the potential earnings lost due to not getting accepted at a top school.

This is a big problem that harms our highest-GPA kids, just as they're trying to find and get into the "right" college for them, in many ways - let's fix it now!
