We, the undersigned, support the need for Da Vinci School.
We propose to open an all through school for 4-16 year olds. Da Vinci School will be open to all children and specialise in a dyslexia friendly approach. Our first stage is to open a secondary mainstream school from Year 7 to Year 11 which teaches in a creative and personalised way to the benefit of a wide range of pupils. We will use proven dyslexia friendly approaches to provide successful teaching to all children, regardless of learning style. We aim for ours to be a very personalised education, with progress being very closely monitored. We will be using cross curricular themes to link subject areas together, emphasising the development of core skills of enquiry that will be essential in the world beyond school. We will also be providing enrichment activities to build on students’ strengths and interests e.g. in the arts. We are sure that there are many children of all abilities who will benefit from this school.
We are in the process of identifying a central site that is accessible to secondary children from the surrounding towns of Dartford, Gravesend, Maidstone, Sevenoaks, Swanley and Tonbridge where there is a lot of pressure for places and fewer choices outside of faith, grammar and private schools. Once the secondary school is established we would seek to open a primary section to serve the local villages, complementing the established primaries to meet the growing need for places in the area due to population growth and the impact of housing developments.

My own child struggles in the current system and I know how many other families are waiting for a school that actually understands their needs. We are nearly at one hundred signatures and reaching that mark will show officials that our families cannot be ignored any longer.

This is desperately needed. As an SaLT, Dyslexia Practitioner and University Lecturer, I see on a daily basis, the lack of provision for young people with Dyslexia, and DLD! The current obsession is ASD to the detriment of everything else.
I think this school is much needed and a great idea as KCC have no local offer for dyslexia and no resources currently for dyslexic despite at least 1 in 10 people being dyslexic. I was told they simply have a policy. I welcome this new school.
As a mother of a year 6 child with diagnosed dyslexia, who is struggling in main stream to complete his SAT,s I can confirm the desperate need for children to be understood to enable their potential to be communicated and help the frustrations and demotivation
A fantastic idea. I am sure this will be a very popular school, providing a learning approach which many are looking for but cannot find locally. A much-needed secondary education choice outside of the grammar and private school systems in the area
Think that Kent is desperately in need for better provision for children with mild to moderate learning difficulties. Most of the specialist only cater for children with more severe or complex difficulties. A lot of children with milder issues are failed by mainstream schools .
Think this is a brilliant idea! Our daughter learns through procession teaching & repetitive think this would be perfect for her. Love the school ethos about finding out what the child enjoys.
Yes utmost requirement for the area. Not many good schools surrounding

I wish a provision like this had been around to support my dyslexic son achieve his full potential. He left primary school above national in all areas. A late diagnosis just before his GCSEs meant he left secondary school with x3 level 4 GCSEs, anxiety and a lack of self worth.
