In recent years, and especially in the last year alone with the rise of the #MeToo movement, it has become abundantly clear to me that there are far too many adults that do not have a comprehensive understanding of the law and what happens when said laws are violated. Teaching the youth about laws and criminal justice system will give them a better understanding of how their actions will affect themselves and those around them. In my personal experience, as well during my online interactions, I have come to see that there is a lack of understanding of certain laws, like those surrounding sexual assault, harassment, and r*pe. It is my beleif that introducing at least one criminal justice class into high school curriculum could change the lives of young people and not only teach people what not to do, but inform them of their own rights as a citizen of the United States. This petition is only going to be used to show how many people think it is necessary that these lessons be taught. Thank you for your support in advance!

Reaching this level of support feels heavy because it confirms so many of you see the same gap in our education that I do. It has been an exhausting road to get here but knowing there are others pushing for this change keeps me going.

kids graduate knowing nothing about how the law actually works. this would be so much more useful than half the stuff they make us take.

Education like this should be mandatory! There are too many people (men especially) who are not up to date on these issues, which makes the problem happen way more.

This is a course that has great benefits regarding young adults and how they interact with each other.
