To: Our political leaders in Washington and Rhode Island: WE, THE UNDERSIGNED OF RHODE ISLAND, formally state our objection to any proposed legislation that results in any increase in taxes or fees in the state of Rhode Island. We cannot continue to lay a heavy tax burden on Rhode Islanders and drive away the citizens and small businesses which have helped make this state great. Taxes should be cut in order to promote a healthy economy. We insist that our state and the nation cut government spending. Rising state and federal budget deficits will not be tolerated. We cannot continue to mortgage our children’s future. Furthermore, reckless and ill-conceived bailouts of poorly run corporations must stop now. We the undersigned pledge to support only those leaders who value these principles.
