8th grade yearbook quotes - LET US EXPRESS OUR INDIVIDUALITY!

As 8th graders, we are discovering who we are and are being encouraged to express ourselves. For at least the past 12 years, students have been able to pick a quote to go under their pictures in the yearbook. This quote has had a special meaning to that student. Most of us have had a quote, if not a few, picked out for some time now. Forcing this graduating class to pick a quote from a Saint is unfair. What is the point of picking a quote to represent ourselves if it does not have a personal meaning? I don’t think any of us are far enough into our own spiritual journey to really have a specific quote from a Saint represent us. We are not looking to pick anything inappropriate and there may be a few students who pick a religious toned quote. We are asking that we are not limited to only picking quotes from Saints. Let us express who we are. We have all looked through our yearbooks since preschool and couldn’t wait to be the graduating class with all of those pages dedicated to us. Let us have the same freedom of choice as the many students who have come before us. Let our yearbook be OUR yearbook.

“Everything that is really great and inspiring is created by the individual who can labor in freedom” Albert Einstein

“Why fit in when you were born to stand out” Dr Seuss

Thank you.

Please Consider allowing us the freedom to pick a quote that has a personal meaning to us. We are proud to be Catholic students but it isn’t all we are.

years previously could pick their own quite and it changes right when we get to 8th grade? i think we should be allowed to pick our own.

Absolutely agree with Chuck's position. It was very well stated! While I agree there shouldn't be inappropriate quotes selected, the student's yearbook quote needs to speak to them and should not be limited. All quotes should be reviewed and approved by the yearbook committee.

Alyssa had picked out a very nice inspirational quote since 7th grade she wanted to put and it was turned down. Perhaps they could review and approve them. I do understand that some in previous years were inappropriate but we shouldnt they shouldnt be forced to pick one they dont like.
