Our last request as seniors is to decorate our graduation caps. While it is understandable to want to have a look of unity, our individuality and creativity should be allowed to shine through. The Tinker v. Des Moines Supreme Court case defined that our rights should not be violated at school unless it will "materially and substantially interfere" with operation of the school, Freedom of expression is important and a constitutional right. Decorating our caps in no way interferes or interrupts the school's graduation ceremony. It is understandable that staff may be afraid of someone being offensive; hence, if deemed inappropriate during graduation day, then staff should withhold that person from walking the stage. Calero is unique and so are we. We hope you will consider and accept this proposal.

Calero's students have worked hard to graduate and should be allowed to do something as simple as decorating a cap. If you're worried that the content won't be appropriate then ask to see the cap before the day of graduation.

This is their last year, let them do whatever they want to their gown. That's a special moment for them and traditional

These kids worked hard to graduate, they should be aloud to decorate their caps. It is their graduation after all.

It's a tradition we should be able to do this for our last year of high school!!

Agree! As long as there's no dress code violation or gang reference, I think it's a wonderful way to celebrate this rite of passage!

every senior on this campus have worked too hard to not be able to decorate our graduation caps, each student shows their own artistic skill, and that's exactly what we shall do.
