We, the homeowners of Lenore west, and members of the Lenore Block Comittee, need your support to oppose a shopping center development that will move/demolish 96 houses, west of Telegraph Road, and North of 7 Mile Road, in Detroit, Michigan. In demolishing up to 96 homes built between the 1920s, and 1960s using asbestos based materials causes a health hazard to the community. It will also destroy 30 acres of trees, which are a source for processing carbon dioxide, and creating a noise barrier from main streets. the developer plans on a 10 foot wall, which will face the front of our existing homes, and also decrease our property values. An increase in crime can also be foreseen. The Detroit City Council has neglected to listen to the protests of the people it was appointed to represent. Eye on Detroit developer Steven Shafer plans on using Brownfields funding to clean up the mess. Money that is designated for the removal of hazardous materials from industrial and commercial areas, not residential, as stated by government agencies.
