As society enters a modernized state and today’s youth slowly gains more responsibility, we as Hastings College students feel that residence hall regulations require an update to include a 24-hour guest policy. The previous guest policy, governed by societal norms and cultural expectations of the past, is now out of date. Furthermore, the polices of other institutions, including the University of Nebraska Kearney and the University of Nebraska Lincoln, have changed in accordance to modern times whereas our policies have not. If other institutions in the surrounding area can regulate modified guest policies, it only makes sense that Hastings College could implement a 24-hour guest policy that would benefit students without degrading our institution’s values.

Seeing this level of support confirms that so many of us are tired of feeling treated like children in our own dorms. It is humbling to watch this movement grow while we fight for the simple autonomy we deserve.

Having a 24-hour guest policy will give dorm residents the freedom that college should provide. Also, it will remove the need for residents to sneak other people into the dorm and allow an accurate headcount in case of an emergency!
Guests should still have to sign in, but are able to stay if the RAs and RD is notified. It addresses the issue of not knowing who is in the building because residents sneak guests in anyway.
Hopefully this actually goes threw. Of it did maybe more kids would decide to stay here for school. Just a thought.
This would be a great idea and if we are held to the same standard for programming events as other schools are, we should also have the same visitation rights allowing over night guests like these other schools.
This would be a great privilege, being that I went to both UNK and UNL and witnessed how well the 24 hour policy works for them. I feel that Hastings College can implement it and do just as great if not better!
I think this is a great idea. Let's change it up!

It's time we treat our students like they're adults with adult responsibilities and privileges!
