The Petition for the Purple Heart for 1st Lt. Louis Allen and Captain Phillip Esposito
We, the undersigned, believe that the Purple Heart should be granted to 1st Lt. Louis E. Allen and Captain Phillip Esposito posthumously due to mortal wounds inflicted on June 7, 2005 in Tikrit, Iraq. In reading AR 600-8-22, dated 25 February 1995 it clearly states: 4) Examples of enemy-related injuries which clearly justify award of the Purple Heart are as follows: (a) Injury caused by enemy bullet, shrapnel, or other projectile created by enemy action. (b) Injury caused by enemy placed mine or trap. Although the Army fully acquitted the man accused of murdering 1st Lt. Allen, they never looked for another suspect. It is our belief that the person who murdered Lt. Allen and Captain Esposito should be declared an enemy of our nation for killing two officers in good standing. Therefore, 1st Lt. Louis E. Allen and Captain Phillip Esposito deserve to be awarded the Purple Heart.
