We, as parents, girls and friends of 1st Broxburn Girls Brigade, are petitioning to support the continuation of the current company at Broxburn Parish church.

The Girls Brigade is an organisation which provides fun and learning for girls of all ages in a Christian environment. Our daughters thrive on the varied, engaging and exciting programme which is delivered by the officers and young leaders. This programme enables them to deepen their understanding of Christianity, develop transferable skills which will help them in all areas of their lives, and spend time learning with and from each other. Meeting up with girls from other schools on a weekly basis enables them to form wider friendships which encourage and enhance their Christian values. For many girls it is their only connection with the church and gives them a good grounding in which their faith may grow. All of this is only made possible by the hard work and dedication of the officers who week in and week out give up their time to engage and encourage our girls. They are an amazing team who, with Alison Turnbull at the helm, provide us with a unique, well run and safe environment to guide, nurture and support our girls to flourish.

We are very concerned about the communication we received outlining that the company is currently unable to confirm what is happening after the summer break. If the company was not to continue this would be a travesty for our families individually and for the community as a whole. We ask that the Kirk Session and Girls Brigade Scotland, working with the officers from 1st Broxburn Girls Brigade, find a way to ensure that this highly effective company continues so it can develop further opportunities to touch the hearts and lives of the girls in our community.

Please support us by signing this petition and writing your own letter of support through the 1st Broxburn Girls Brigade e-mail address as this will give strength to the current situation.

We have submitted a formal request for a meeting with the church leadership to discuss the future of the company. I am currently drafting a briefing document that outlines the impact of this program on our families. We are waiting for their response before determining our next move.

I am really sad to hear of the turmoil 1st Broxburn is going through having been apart of it for 13 years of my life. As the only Christian youth group in the local area whose membership continues to rise year after year it would be a tragic loss for the community and church. Ali and the other officers you have my support.

I was a part of this company for the whole time I lived in broxburn and I can honestly say it helped me so much to both prepare me for adult life and to make some amazing friends for life. The captain was Alison Turnbull who is an amazing woman - such an inspiration and so dedicated to such a fantastic organisation.

Broxburn Girls Brigade Company is a successful GB company which has gone from strength to strength under the stewardship of Ali Turnbull and her team of Officers who work extremely hard to provide the girls of the parish with fun, friendship and guidance every Friday. My daughters attend GB and would be devastated if it were to cease.

My girls have loved this club. They enjoyed the opportunity to go to camps and day trips which were activities they wouldn't otherwise have accessed.

My daughter has been attending broxburn girls brigade since p1 she is now in p5.she is very sad to hear they might not be returning after the summer. Alison and her team have done such an amazing job with the girls and to do so in there free time as volunteers is such an amazing thing to do for them.

My daughter is also very upset that the company could be disbanded. What happened to children being the future of the Church. This doesn't seem to be the case at Broxburn Parish. We seem to be losing everything that involves children. The captain and the officers give up their time on a Friday night to teach the girls on a Friday night.

100+ girls getting morale and spiritual guidance in a fun way by enthusiastic staff is one of if not the biggest assets Broxburn parish church has. How the church have let the current situation develop and not acted rapidly to resolve it is beyond my understanding. For the sake of the current & future GB girls and the community the church needs to undo the damage it has done and recognise the exceptional leader they have in Alison by welcoming her back to lead the company. This needs to be done ASAP, it's already dragged on for 5 months and I fear further delay will make it impossible for the company to carry on. How can the church let a few individuals impact the great work the GB does with do many?
