Urgent remittance issues in Maldives for Pakistanis
We, the Pakistani consultant and non consultant doctors and other Pakistani workers serving in the Republic of Maldives, ask you to intervene immediately and help us end the financial crisis caused by the current remittance restrictions.
We are paid in Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR), but this money cannot be transferred directly to Pakistan or converted into Pakistani Rupees (PKR). To support our families back home, we must first convert our earnings into US Dollars (USD). The problem is that local banks refuse to provide dollars to expatriates at the official government rate of 15.42 MVR, leaving us with no fair and lawful option.
Because of this, we are forced to buy dollars from the black market at a rate of 21 MVR. This difference is not small. It means Pakistani workers here lose between 800 to 1,000 USD every month just to send money home. What should be our hard-earned salary is instead being drained away.
We also note that legal remittance channels have been reduced over time. We were previously able to send money through the State Bank of India, but that channel was banned. Later, Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Malé allowed monthly remittances of 15,400 MVR (1,000 USD), but this has now been cut to 7,700 MVR (500 USD). For consultant doctors, who need to remit around 40,000 MVR each month to sustain their families, this limit is far too low.
We have informed the Pakistani Consulate in the Maldives, but no action has been taken. We therefore request urgent diplomatic engagement to allow professionals to convert currency at the official rate, or an official directive to HBL Malé to raise the monthly remittance limit to match our actual earnings.

Before coming in maldives, candidate must know about black market and minimum 30-40% loss of salary in MVR to USD transfer. Although work life balance is much better. But overall take home amount is very less as compare to they post while giving adds for jobs.
As an expat serving in Maldives this issue is of utmost importance for the Pakistani Dr. Community in general and expats from all countries in particular. No more being a slave to the grind. This issue has weight and must be highlighted at all levels for the governments of our countries and host government to not only take notice and make amends urgently.
We are losing a lot of our hard-earned money due to the high rates in the black market for dollars. Kindly address this problem so we can send more remittances to our loved ones in Pakistan.
We respectfully request an increase in the current remittance limit, as the existing restriction is resulting in avoidable financial loss. Due to the limited allowance, we are compelled to convert Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR) into foreign currency through alternative channels at significantly higher exchange rates. This practice leads to an unnecessary depletion of our hard-earned income. An upward revision of the remittance limit would greatly alleviate this burden, facilitate transactions through
I am a doctor working in Maldives for more then 6 years and one of the afectee who suffered from decreased remittance by HBL Bank in Maldives to Pakistan. I wish we can increase it so we can save some amount of our hard earned money losing to the black market selling Dollar for outrageous rates and beyond the standard 15.4 MVR per dollar set by MMA.
Because we are getting salary in MVR. Can not send MVR to Pakistan.
Rate of usd is increasing day by day and not being available to foreigners. Kindly look into the matter.

I am signing this petition to urge the Government of Pakistan and OEC to address the MVR-to-USD remittance issue faced by Pakistani healthcare workers in the Maldives. A significant portion of our hard-earned salaries is lost to the black market simply to obtain US dollars to support our families in Pakistan. We request an official, affordable, and transparent remittance mechanism so overseas healthcare professionals can send their earnings home without suffering unnecessary financial losses.
