Support Enhanced Police Training in Orange County
We, the undersigned, support the creation of a dedicated police training facility to serve all law enforcement agencies throughout Orange County, New York. Our community depends on well‑trained officers who are prepared to respond safely, professionally, and effectively to the wide range of situations they face every day.
This proposed facility would support the training needs of the police academy, allow for multi‑agency training, and provide specialized, year‑round instruction. A modern training center is essential to advancing officer safety, operational readiness, and current policing standards.
We strongly emphasize the importance of enhanced training in the following areas:
• Domestic violence response
• Mental health and crisis intervention
• De‑escalation techniques
• Tactical decision‑making
• Safe and professional vehicle stops
• Defensive tactics and officer safety
Funding for this facility would be sought through existing New York State programs designed to improve public safety and community outcomes.

Training is paramount in a profession that demands such a broad set of skill sets; from community relations, to social work, responding to medical emergencies, assisting a person through mental health crisis are all situations that a police officer is expected to handle on top of protecting the community and crime prevention. A dedicated facility to have both recruits in the academy as well as continued in service training will benefit to serve the community of tOrange County as a whole.
