Support Enhanced Police Training in Orange County
We, the undersigned, support the creation of a dedicated police training facility to serve all law enforcement agencies throughout Orange County, New York. Our community depends on well‑trained officers who are prepared to respond safely, professionally, and effectively to the wide range of situations they face every day.
This proposed facility would support the training needs of the police academy, allow for multi‑agency training, and provide specialized, year‑round instruction. A modern training center is essential to advancing officer safety, operational readiness, and current policing standards.
We strongly emphasize the importance of enhanced training in the following areas:
• Domestic violence response
• Mental health and crisis intervention
• De‑escalation techniques
• Tactical decision‑making
• Safe and professional vehicle stops
• Defensive tactics and officer safety
Funding for this facility would be sought through existing New York State programs designed to improve public safety and community outcomes.
By supporting this proposal, we are advocating for a stronger, safer Orange County—one where officers receive the training they need and residents benefit from the highest standards of service.

A dedicated police training facility ensures Orange County law enforcement can regularly train for real-world situations. Better training improves decision-making, emergency response, and coordination between agencies, ultimately providing safer and more professional policing for our residents.
I am part of the Orange County SOG showing the need for a new training facility to facilitate future training and enhancing our abilities to respond to events in Orange County.
As a TEMS medic, I understand all too well the logistic challenges faced when trying to setup realistic valuable training that brings real life situations to the classroom to best prepare our people that put themselves in harms way to protect us. Finding facilities to “borrow” for a day is ok for walk through training and familiarization, but full speed tactics training needs a dedicated facility for safety, control and realistic training.
Training is paramount in a profession that demands such a broad set of skill sets; from community relations, to social work, responding to medical emergencies, assisting a person through mental health crisis are all situations that a police officer is expected to handle on top of protecting the community and crime prevention. A dedicated facility to have both recruits in the academy as well as continued in service training will benefit to serve the community of tOrange County as a whole.
I fully support our men and women in Law Enforcement in Orange County. We need to provide them with the necessary tools to protect and serve our communities. I support whatever we need to do to ensure that they have access to the best possible training opportunities available.
Law enforcement officers deserve the funding and training space to conduct the highest levels of training.

Police must be supported and provided with resources. Training is a critical component that supports and develops the brave men and women who wear the uniform. The outcome of training has a direct impact on the very communities they serve!
