Brandeis is charging us more and giving us less.
The University has cut dining at Usdan on Fridays and for breakfast, reduced hours at The Hive and Einstein Bros. Bagels, and closed the Faculty Club. At the same time, Brandeis continues to make massive cuts to academic departments, particularly in the humanities and languages, weakening the education we came here to receive. Meanwhile the hours of dining hall workers are being dramatically reduced to the point where many workers struggle to pay bills and have to get second jobs just to get by.
These cuts come at the time when our tuition has increased by $3,146 since last year and we continue to pay $8,700 per year for dining plans.
We are expected to pay more while getting less and less! This is unacceptable.
Students and workers are being forced to bear the consequences of decisions made by administrators who have chosen to reduce spending on the people who make this university function.
We reject the idea that students and workers should have to accept less while paying more.
Therefore, we demand:
- The reopening of Usdan Kitchen on Fridays and for breakfast on weekdays.
- The extension of hours at the Hive on weekdays until 11:00 PM instead of 8:00 PM.
- The extension of hours at Einstein Bros. Bagels on weekends to 10:00 PM instead of 5:00 PM.
- The reopening of the Faculty Lounge.
- The ending of understaffing: All workers should have enough hours and be paid enough to lead dignified lives.
- The ending of cuts on academic programs, dining, and other services students rely on.
We demand that our demands be addressed by November 5th with a concrete plan of action on how the changes will be implemented. We demand the extension of hours of the dining establishments to take place no later than November 20th 2026.
Please join us in front of the president's office on October 28th at 2:45 PM to fight for these demands.
Please also join us at upper Usdan on Oct 19th at 12:10 to protest.

I’m a student and I feel it is a great shame how this university has treated its service workers. They deserve dignity and our support!
