We call on the Sparta area school district to end sexist dress code enforcement and make school rules fair and clear for everyone.

Right now, students are being held to rules that are not even in the handbook, and those rules are being used to target girls while boys are allowed to break the handbook dress code without any consequences. That is not fair, and it sends the wrong message to students about whose comfort and conduct matter.

A school dress code should be easy to understand, written down, and applied the same way to all students. When rules are enforced unevenly, it creates a hostile and confusing school climate. It teaches girls that they are being watched and judged more closely than boys, and it teaches boys that they can ignore the rules. That is not a healthy lesson for any school to send.

We believe the Sparta area school district should review its dress code immediately, remove any unwritten rules, and make sure enforcement is equal and consistent for all students. Students and families deserve transparency, fairness, and respect.

We ask the district to stop sexist enforcement, make all dress code expectations public in the handbook, and ensure that no student is singled out because of gender. Schools should help students learn, not police them unfairly.
