School food is becoming a financial burden on families in our borough. A single cookie can cost £1, while a basic meal costs nearly £3. For food that students describe as mediocre in quality, these prices are difficult to justify.
Many students rely on school meals every day. These costs add up quickly. Parents regularly top up their children's accounts, only to watch the money disappear on simple items-a baguette, a bottle of water-leaving little room in household budgets for anything else. Over a week, this becomes a significant expense that many families can ill afford.
School meals should be affordable and filling. Right now, they are a financial burden.
We are asking the local MP and government to review food prices in schools and reduce the cost of meals and individual items. Even small reductions would make a real difference to families over time. Students deserve food that is both accessible and worth the price they pay.
We, the undersigned, call on the school to take action now. Reduce prices. Make school meals genuinely affordable for every family in our community.
