- Recent changes of the school rules now dictates when and what children on free school meals can eat, they can not get any food at break times unless its paid for by parents and for lunch they have a limited option, no cold food, no food from thr snack shack, the pasta they are allowed is covered in oil, this has been a recent change, due to the change the children now spend majority of their lunch queuing or resort to not eating, this now forcing already struggling parents to provide their children with a packed lunch, free school meals are their to ease the burden and pressures parents face on providing for their children while at school but due to these changes its having the opposite effect, on speaking to certain members of staff they do not agree either with the new changes that have been put in place, not only is this highlighting the children on free school meals its now isolating them too and making them feel like they stand out, they either eat the slop they are being provided or they go hungry. This will also be sent to kent county council and the school. Please sign our petition and save our children for being hungry.

I work in a school kitchen myself and no child is made to feel any different than their peers they are all treated the same.
I have 3 children go to this school and 2 of them are sen and the first day they didn't have long to eat as the queues were too long as they couldn't get lunch at break no more which my boys did so they didn't have to wait in a long queue to get food they only had 4 minutes to eat it then lunch time finished also they only ate ham and cheese baguette which they can't get that on free school meals the can only have a hot meal which my children are fussy and they won't always.l eat what's on the menu
We deserve to be treated bettar have main and dessert of whatever choice the same as everyone else shame on you leigh academy
Could you all share with family and friends and on social media please let’s help the young people have more better options and not feel isolated.

I will eat chicken no matter what condition because of my herritage

It’s unacceptable that students are discriminated against when it comes to school dinners. No child should be made to feel lesser because of their family’s financial situation. Those already facing disadvantage should not be further penalised by what is supposed to be a safety net. Access to nutritious meals should be a right, not a privilege, equality and dignity must be at the heart of our school systems.
