I am a retired Firefighter,and the way the Brigade is being cut, now, is a disaster waiting to happen. Yes there are fewer fires, but large fires will always occur and if the resourses are not there, lives will be lost.

With new housing developments in the immediate area, with many more in progress/planning. The population of Yorkhill/Finneston/Anderston and Hillhead is growing at an extremely rapid rate. Cutting this vital resource will (almost inevitably) cost lives.

Covers SEC including hydro, swg3, transport museum including tall ship, Kelvin hall, Glasgow university, Kelvin grove art gallery what's left of yorkhill hospital, over 120 multistorey flats and an large number of student accommodation. For what is lready a single appliance station.

I worked here in late 1970's and early 80's. A busy station back then with 2 pumps,(fire engines), a TL,(turntable ladder), a special support vehicle, a mobile demonstration Unit,and an old retired demonstration appliance. Approximately 20 personnel on the watch, to ensure full manning of appliances. Pre 1975, it was also the station for the fireboat (St.Mungo), personnel. A vibrant station back then, with christmas party's, and open days.
Now in 2026, 1 pump, watch in single figure. Sad!

It is important to keep all our Fire Stations open especially now that we are having wild fires in the Country side and also fires in older buildings.

I lived here years ago. It's a "central" position covering Yorkhill, Overnewton, Sandyford, Finnieston and, across the Kelvin, Partick, Dowanhil, Whiteinch (another closed station) and Scotstoun. There is another Station in Knightswood but nothing nearer.

Fire Stations are like insurance policies, it’s better to have cover and hoping you never have to use it than finding you need it and aren’t covered.

I was brought up in Kelvinhaugh Street, on the very place where the fire station is now. When the tenements were demolished and the fire station built, the community thought this was an excellent idea. A fire station that would serve as a quick response unit to the Kelvinhaugh, Partick, Anderston, Scotstoun areas.
