Implementing such a system in such a short timeframe will create unnecessary confusion and place considerable pressure on students, parents, teachers, and schools. If the objective is to establish a different educational structure, children should ideally be introduced to that system from the beginning of their primary-school journey. Introducing significant changes at Class 3 means that children who have already spent two years adapting to one system suddenly have to adjust to completely diffe

After spending over 20 years in the field of education, I have discovered that students do not respond well to hastily implemented changes. Shifting the finish line for students who have been preparing for an exam from the time they entered Class One and even before is not the way to go. I recognize the value of continuous assessment and know that this is the way forward. I recommend changes in assessment should begin with those now entering Class One so they and the MOE be fully prepared.

Parents and the schools have not yet been adequately informed of the changes proposed by the Ministry. The school year is just around the corner and both teachers and students will both be at a disadvantage due to the lack of time givwn to both parties to properly prepare for the expected changes.

While I understand the need to transform the education system, doing so in a way that is not well thought out is a problem. The fact the the new syllabus was not available by the end of June/early July for a September implementation is a huge red flag in my opinion.

My concern is the COVID-affected cohort. These children lost critical classroom development during their foundational preschool years and have been playing catch-up ever since. Changing their assessment system now risks further disadvantaging them. Let this cohort complete the system they started, and introduce the new model to children who can be prepared for it from the beginning. Give this cohort a fair chance to finish.

The school term beings soon and aspects of this new approach are not clear. We need more information and opportunities for parents, teachers and other stakeholders to discuss and engage. We need to ensure that the approach implemented is right for our children and does not place them at a disadvantage.
