Safe Access for residents to Hemel Hempstead Station

To close the gate for reasons of security does not make sense to me. I commute to London from Sheethanger Lane via the rear access which is both a convenient and safe route. The alternative is to either walk along Felden Lame which doesn't have footpaths all the way or take the unlit and narrow alley to the A4521 and then cross the always busy A4521 twice without crossings and go under the tunnel which is very narrow and no doubt high fume concentration

I use it daily, mainly early in the mornings (5.40am), I don’t want to have a more dangerous and longer walk everyday to access the train. I also walk back and this adds a further commute where I would miss putting my children to bed.

The walk the other way is unsafe, there is no path for some of it and is dangerously ridiculous especially in the dark

Our son has MS and will find the closure very difficult as the road especially under the railway bridge is so dangerous and in the winter hazardous for everyone I would like to know who decided without consultation with the people who use it to close this back route.

Safety of getting to the train station is imperative to our community. Walking down the high street through the narrow walk way under the bridge with traffic is dangerous resulting in a higher risk of an accident happening

I have used this access to the station for 46 years both when there was no gate and since then. It was one of the primary reasons as a commuter to London that we bought a house in Felden.

This appears to me to be a knee jerk decision made off the back of the back of a single incident. Whoever, came up with the alternative route clearly has not walked that route for themselves either in daylight or darkness. The access via the rear gate access is used by so many members of the local community on a very regular basis. To have not even been consulted or discussed with local residents is completely unfair.

My children will have to cross a busy dangerous road to access the station. Unacceptable to close an important access point without proper consultation.

i have spent 3 years using this entrance to get to school 5 days a week. it means i do not have to walk as far down felden lane (which is largely unpaved with a blind turn), keeping me safe. it also cuts down my journey time by 5-10 minutes. removing this access point would endanger people as they will have to cross busy roads unnecessarily.

There is a right of way from Bovingdon to Boxmoor in the Doomsday book according to the group that tried to prevent a locked gate being installed. The agreed compromise was to provide residents with a gate pass on providing proof of address. I find it interesting that gate pass holders have not been communicated with about trying to renegade on this agreement.

I oppose the shutting of the back gate to the station. This has been used safely as an access route for many years. Using the alternative routes proposed especially in the dark and at night will make it more difficult to access the train station and increase the cars & traffic to and from the station along London road.

I object to the closure of the rear entrance. I rely on this access to avoid a lengthy and dangerous walk to the station to get to work. My children rely on it as the only safe way to get to the station to catch the train to school Closing it on “safety grounds” is not explained - it creates far more dangers to close it
