The rear access provides a significantly safer route for the residents who rely on it. It’s been in place for many years, and the council should clearly demonstrate the evidence for considering any changes to this long-established arrangement. There has been no consultation with the wider community, despite the fact that many residents would be directly affected. Given the numerous issues facing our town, it’s difficult to understand why changing an established access route is being prioritised.

Dressing up concerns about fare dodging as “safety” is outrageous. This company does not care about the safety of its passengers when they are not on their trains as is clear from their suggested alternative route .

I have lived in Roughdown Avenue all my life (31 years) and have always had access via back gate. I am a musician and frequently travel with my gear into London. There is no way can I walk the suggested route with all my kit. What safety issue are they talking about, what key issue has changed? No consultation with relevant card holders/community about closing a well used and safe access point to the station.

The station management must justify its decision and provide legitimate evidence that using the back gate is unsafe. For residents living behind the station, the back gate route is safer than the front entrance. As a daily London commuter for the past 15 years, I must catch early trains before sunrise and return home after dark. Forcing me to use the Roughdown Road bridge—the only alternative route—creates a severe personal safety risk during these dark hours.

It’s vital for our family to keep this open, we use it daily. Our alternative is walking up Felden lane, narrow with no pavement in parts.

I have used this rear gate for years without any safety incidents. What was the result of the safety review? What are the safety concerns. It is not abnormal for stations to have multiple entry and exits. This will have a negative affect on the local community.

The rear gate to Hemel station allows residents to access the station SAFELY without using any roads. If it shuts, the London Road route is DANGEROUS, adding 10-15 mins to the walk and requiring us to cross the busy London Road to use the VERY narrow eastern pavement which has no passing space and is infeasible for wheelchairs and double buggies. Instead people will drive, adding to traffic congestion and affecting parking provision at the station carpark.

There has always been access to the station for residents living in Felden. There is no valid substantiated reason to close it. The alternative path recommended to the station is not safe to walk and is health and safety issue.

The rear access to the station has been in use since I moved to Sheethanger lane in 1999 and long before that. The proposed route along the road under the A41 is dangerous and I dont believe this is a safer route than the rear entrance.

This access /entrance is the only safe way for residents to access the station. The alternative route is very unsafe, with significant risks from the large number of vehicles inc HGVs, buses etc. passing very close, especially during the wet winter months. Please keep this much needed access open. Thank you.
