Safe Access for residents to Hemel Hempstead Station

I use this entrance for my regular commute and my family use it regularly. Really disappointed that this closure is happening.

My parents live on a road behind the station. My father has Dementia, struggles with walking alone due to forgetting directions. This is vital for both access to the station and pass through - as he has done for 15+ years. The removal of access puts his safety significantly at risk and unlikely able to walk alone, not using the alternate routes for such a long period. He has limited independence already and the closure either removes the little he has or puts his safety at risk.

This access provides a safe access to Hemel station. The alternative is to walk under the railway bridge using a very narrow path - I am surprised no one has been injured using this path . Using it is an accident waiting to happen!

I have had access to this walk way since I attended secondary school I am 38 so that’s 28 years, My son will be going through to catch transport to his secondary school and it’s not safe for him to walk around the back route in the winter

We have lived on Roughdown Avenue as long as can remember, having access to this gate for over 3 decades. We’d love to know the safety implications, because as far as we can remember; the fast trains have always operated on platform 4, this never been an issue for all decades. So, why now? My safety issue, is the state of the railway, happy to send photos. My son needs access for school— nothing is safe about the other routes in autumn/winter! will you be putting lights on these routes?

I regularly use this gate to get to work and back as i am a bartender it is not safe for me to walk the whole way round during antisocial hours of the night/morning.

I live Roughdown Avenue, regularly returning from work in Central London after midnight it is not safe to walk from London Road in dark, I would be very nervous; taxi too expensive. Additionally I have health issues making the long walk challenging. There is no safety issue keeping access open but definitely putting residents at risk walking alone on main roads after dark. Rail company must install CTV cameras and motion detector lights then safety problems solved.

The b r edge that goes over the walkway in the road is not a safe place for pedestrians to walk, as road is wider than the pathways

It’s really unsafe for my children to walk under the bridge on London Road as it’s an incredibly narrow pathway and cars go very fast. It’s absolutely not acceptable to expect pedestrians to do so when we have a safe option of using the back entrance to the station. This closer will affect absolutely everyone living in the surrounding area in some way. It is not acceptable to take this safe walk way away from us and cause this level of anxiety/ stress to everyone involved.

I have to walk through the train station every morning in order to get to the bus for school and without the back door i will have to cross 6 dangerous and busy roads which makes me feel very unsafe and scared.

This is important to me as it massively impacts my widowed parent who will be in shock to not use this passage. Without notifying someone when it is blatantly going to negatively impact a communities health and safety.

As an elderly resident I will find it impossible to walk the way you have suggested & trying to get a taxi for that distance will be difficult. I chose to live in Roughdown for safe, direct station access via the rear gate. Closing it forces residents onto a busy road and an unlit, uneven path, creating unnecessary safety risks, especially at night.

This access to the station has been in place for a very long time. I can’t see any safety grounds for it not to continue. In fact the alternative route is probably much less safe. Closing it without public consultation is pretty disgraceful and short sighted.
