Decision Makers: The University of the West Indies

We ask the University of the West Indies Global Campus to restore the original assessment arrangements for the UWI Pre-U 2025–2027 Associate Degree programmes and keep the published continuous assessment model with no final examination for the affected courses.

Students enrolled in the 2025–2027 UWI Pre-U Associate Degree programmes entered these studies on the understanding that the assessment arrangements already published would apply. Those arrangements indicated continuous assessment, not a final examination, for several courses. Introducing final examinations after enrolment changes the terms of study in a way that creates confusion, uncertainty, and unfair pressure for students who planned their work around the original structure.

Assessment should be clear, stable, and communicated before students commit to a programme. When a decision of this kind is made after enrolment, it affects trust and places an added burden on students who are already working hard to meet their course requirements. Students deserve to know what is expected of them from the start, and they deserve a fair process when those expectations are changed.

We therefore call on UWI Global Campus to reconsider this decision, maintain the original assessment arrangements communicated at enrolment, provide a clear explanation for the proposed changes, and engage with affected students to reach a fair resolution. This matter is about fairness, transparency, and respect for the students who enrolled in good faith.

I understand wanting us to gain the experience of being at UWI in the case of some students matriculating over there however cutting our semester short, making classes longer than originally agreed upon, and changing our assessments to final exams with only 4 weeks left while we still have yet to get most of our other assessments is unfair and unjustified, especially when you speak about accommodating us even though it’s clear you have not whatsoever

I think it is unfair to everyone especially mature students that have work to be given such short notice on finals. With proper preparation they could have announced it for the last semester next year where persons could have made more preparations for it.

I don't think that the administration is aware of the position they are putting the students in.At the moment they're multiple outstanding assignments that have yet to be uploaded for us to complete thoses assignments now have to be shorten to match the grade they are now worth, which means we the students will be getting it even later additionally the school extending teaching by 5 hours ontop of our regular classes, this leads to us not having the time to properly study for an exam worth 60%.

It quite unfair for them to give students a random exam when they have less than a month to prepare, while also having to juggle other assignments. WE STUDENTS ARE TIRED!!!

I’m signing because I believe students should be treated fairly and the original assessment arrangements should be respected. We enrolled in the programme based on what was initially communicated to us, and changing those arrangements after enrolment puts students in an unfair position. We already have enough responsibilities managing our coursework, and introducing final examinations unexpectedly adds unnecessary pressure. I believe students deserve consistency, &&’ a fair opportunity.

They are setting everyone up to fail and pay more to come back.

Short notice and I sign up for “no final examination” on all courses.
