Flock cameras are a serious threat to our democracy. No matter how you feel about them, there was not a single vote made to install them in our communities. In Indian River County, our own county commissioners are out of the loop on the topic. While these cameras have served us well by tracking wanted criminals, they also violate our freedom to privacy outlined in the 4th amendment. In Vero Beach, the problem of these cameras becomes greater as two officers are under investigation for abusing their access to this sensitive data. This is unacceptable. This petition serves as a call to action to the Vero Beach Police Department and the Indian River County Sheriffs Office to acknowledge the dangers of Flock. There needs to be better communication to the residents of Vero Beach regarding these cameras, and this petition is calling on Sheriff Eric Flowers and Chief of Police David Currey to hold any sort of discussion with the community on Flock cameras. By signing this, you increase the awareness of this issue, getting us one step closer to a safer Vero Beach.
We need more transparency and consideration with the long term implications of these cameras.
