In contrast, they provide law enforcement with a powerful tool for surveillance, often used without adequate oversight or transparency. Cities that have adopted similar technologies have seen significant controversies, with many questioning whether the benefits truly outweigh the costs to personal privacy.

In Revere and beyond, communities are witnessing an increase in the unwarranted collection and storage of personal data. This technology offers authorities the capability to track our movements, catalog our routines, and potentially misuse our information without a warrant or probable cause. We risk becoming a society where surveillance becomes normalized, where Orwellian oversight creeps into the fabric of our lives, unchecked and unregulated.

These concerns are not just speculative. Reports have been published and documented for the city of Revere, where ALPR data was already accessed improperly.
