The final draft of PRT's Bus Line Redesign contains a number of changes detrimental to public transit, accessibility, and mobility in Mt. Lebanon.
1) Loss of Key Shopping and Employment Connections: The 36 route will no longer service the Galleria, shops along Rt. 19 (Trader Joe's), Village Square (Market District), or South Hills Village.
2) Elimination of all service on Bower Hill between Washington and Cochran: While the proposed shift from the 41 to the 35 adds fantastic new direct service to Oakland, the route now turns off of Bower Hill at Cochran Road, then left onto Cedar Boulevard to reach Washington loop through part of Uptown. With the additional loss of the 38M, all service on Bower Hill between Cochran and Washington will be removed.
3) Negative impact on Micro-Mobility Goals: Move Lebo is actively advocating for the Municipality to create a Micro-Mobility loop to connect Uptown, the High School, and Main Park. As we have seen with recent e-bike issues, dedicated infrastructure is needed for our kids to safely get around without conflicting with pedestrians on our sidewalks. We feel that running both the new 35 and 36L routes along Cedar Boulevard between Cochran and Washington would have a detrimental impact on this goal.
What would we like to see instead?
1) Retain service on the 36 to South Hills Village: Preserve direct access to key retail and employment destinations.
2) Keep the 35 on Bower Hill: Prevent a complete loss of service on this well trafficked corridor. The newly added 35s that runs from the T station direct to Oakland will be able to handle demand for commuters from uptown.
3) Use Cochran Road for the 36: If the 36 does not continue service to South Hills Village, route it along Cochran Road to reach Washington Road rather than Cedar Boulevard. Cochran is a much larger road capable of handling buses and could service new stops at the High School, Library, and more of Uptown.

Hello Transit Supporters - This will be the only message sent out from this petition. This petition will close in approximately 24 hours and signatures will be delivered to the PRT public hearing. Please take a minute to share this with anyone who could help increase our collective voice. In addition to the cuts originally listed, the revamped 36 will only run M-F from 6-9am and 3-6pm. These cuts, combined with the loss of the 38M mean that we lose regular transit access to six different grocery stores (Aldi, Kuhn's, Giant Eagle on Cochran, Fresh Market, Trader Joes, and Market District). Our only remaining transit "accessible" grocery will be the Shop n' Save in Castle Shannon. There will be access to the Shop n' Save in Heidelberg, but this is not a reasonable trip for most. If you can, please also reach out to your Mt. Lebanon Commissioner and ask for their support to have the Municipality also lobby PRT. My family regularly uses the bower hill bus options and would be negatively impacted by removing those services. The addition of the bus to Oakland is very welcome and important to connect Mt. Lebanon to the overall transit network, but the loss of Bower Hill and South Hills Village options would be remove more connectivity than the Oakland line would add.
This redesign trades one problem for another. We gain Oakland access but lose Bower Hill coverage entirely and concentrate bus traffic on Cedar Blvd, directly conflicting with the Lebo Loop micro-mobility initiative. Good transit planning shouldn't create new gaps while closing old ones.
I live in Mt Lebanon and care about keeping it accessible to all individuals. The thought of people not being able to get to work due to these changes feels unacceptable.
The changes on the 36 route in particular would indeed be detrimental. There are many people who rely on this route through the shopping areas.
As a commissioner in Mt Lebanon, I believe the connections between our non-driving residents and commercial areas are critical, specifically grocery stores. These changes would have a severe impact on many of our residents, particularly elderly residents.
Eliminating these bus routes eliminates accessibility in Mt. Lebanon. We already have too many cars on the road, this would add to the traffic congestion.
I think there should be more bus routes! There aren’t enough bus routes throughout Mt Lebanon, making it super inaccessible to people w/o cars or who can’t drive.

Bus services in the South hills are critical. Older folks, people with disabilities, and students use them daily to get to work and appointments. It's too hilly for some folks to walk to the T safely. And let's add more bus shelters too please. Or at least light up posts for riders.
