Decision Makers: Andrea Blair

We are pleased to support the nomination of Aroha Campbell for the Geothermal Rising International Board. Aroha brings more than three decades of geothermal governance, leadership, and community development experience, including her long-standing roles as Trustee of Tauhara North No. 2 Trust (TN2T), Board Member of the New Zealand Geothermal Association, and adviser to geothermal communities around the world. Her expertise spans governance, stakeholder engagement, strategic leadership, indigenous participation, and the successful integration of cultural values within major geothermal developments.

Aroha is widely recognized for helping transform TN2T from a small landowner trust into one of New Zealand’s most successful indigenous geothermal enterprises, with assets now exceeding $1BN.
She played a key role in enabling the development of significant geothermal power projects, she has overseen the stand up of 4 geothermal power stations to date, while ensuring benefits flowed back to owners through education, health, cultural, and community initiatives. Her leadership has demonstrated how geothermal resources can create lasting economic and social outcomes for indigenous communities.

Beyond New Zealand, Aroha has been a strong advocate for indigenous participation in geothermal development internationally, including contributing to the first Geothermal Indigenous People’s Declaration and supporting strategic initiatives with communities in Kenya, Hawaii and elsewhere.
Her international perspective, governance experience, and commitment to inclusive and sustainable geothermal development would make her a valuable addition to the Geothermal Rising Board.
We support her nomination and help ensure that diverse global and indigenous voices continue to be represented in the future direction of the geothermal industry

Aroha Campbell QSM is unparalleled in her work in this realm, a conductor of multiple instruments in an orchestra. You would be at a huge disadvantage if you don't put her there. On a personal note, she has been there for me from Day 1 on my haerenga rangahau/academic journey. I wholeheartedly support this petition.

Aroha has in-depth experience in the inclusion of indigenous in the geothermal expansion journey. In this next AI driven revolution we need consideration around geothermal role in a Just Transition. Aroha can help to achieve this.

Although I don't know her personally, I have heard good comments about her and hope to encourage the New Zealand geothermal community.
