DEFEND OUR RIVERS AND WATERSHEDS, SECURE OUR FUTURE: A DEMAND FOR INTERGENERATIONAL EQUITY AND ECOLOGICAL JUSTICE IN LA UNION!
We strongly oppose the Draft River Restoration and Waterway Rehabilitation Ordinance and the opaque Manual of Procedures (MOP) behind it, and we call on La Union to reject any dredging plan that puts private profit above public good.
Rivers and watersheds are not just empty channels to be dug out and sold off. They hold the water communities depend on, help shape our coasts, support fish and other wildlife, and keep the land around them alive. When dredging is pushed as “restoration” without clear public scrutiny, it can damage riverbeds, disturb sediment, weaken habitats, and leave coastal communities with lasting harm. We should not be asked to accept this as progress.
As young Filipinos living through a worsening climate crisis, we know that what happens to La Union’s rivers today will affect whether this province remains livable for our generation and the ones who come after us. We refuse to inherit degraded riverbeds, depleted fisheries, and ruined shorelines made worse by short-sighted policy.
We are ready to support real solutions that protect rivers, watersheds, and coastal communities. But we will not stay silent while public waterways are turned into private profit centers behind an unclear process.
We call for full transparency, genuine public consultation, and a complete stop to the La Union Dredging Ordinance. Let us choose ecological justice, intergenerational equity, and a future where La Union’s rivers are protected for all.
LET US UNITE AND BE PART OF THIS CHANGE!!!
NO TO LA UNION DREDGING!!!
