Pearl Energy have proposed under DA2026/0673 that a petrol station be built on the empty lot where 187 Great Western Highway was previously. This will operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week and constitute a shop, underground fuel tanks, and an exit/entrance onto the laneway that runs alongside 2 Belinda Place.
This is a serious risk to you and your children's health and will seriously lower the value of all properties nearby.
This petrol station poses health risks through air, ground, and water pollution - most significantly to residences within 250 metres of the site, of which there are many. (Source: Residential proximity to petrol stations and risk of childhood leukemia - PMC)
It poses light pollution and congestion issues, with bright lights and traffic hazards sure to cause disturbances and nuisance to the residents who live around the site. It poses concerns for the nearby Marugan Temple and the pedestrian and vehicles visiting to worship there, caused by complications and changes to the road and environment.
It will devalue property by up to 16% for properties within 100 metres, and 9% for properties as far as 600 metres away. It will make the already environmentally sparse suburb more developed and less friendly and green. And should there be an environmental issue, the new to the market Pearl Energy would likely close up shop and leave, leaving residents and council to foot the cleanup bill and health hazards.
There is already a petrol station 280 metres down the road, and another 1km away. Mays Hill does not need further industrialisation.
