Because data centers are used to store surveillance data on private citizens and that data is sold off to who knows who.
Also, they are terrible for the environment by polluting air, water and they drain the power supply. Private citizens always come first!

Data centers are the scourge of the earth and until we complete effective legislation to control the environmental impacts they should not be built anywhere. Noise, air, and water pollution are prevalent at most data centers. Plus the economic impact of 10 jobs to the community will be far outweighed by the detrimental cost of non-productive commercial properties when it comes to tax production for the community. There is a very good reason Ames drove this company out of town!

Major concerns over this and the impacts it would have on the environment, utilities, infrastructure, noise pollution and the over all well being of Boone residents. We have one of the state’s greatest parks right here, the Ledges. How will this affect the wildlife? How will this affect our resources? What long term impacts does this have on health? Those often for progress and development say yes with both feet through the door without proper evaluation of long term impacts.

Data centers bring no long term continuing employment benefits. Any abatement of property taxes fail to address and pay for related infrastructure! Additional investments ultimately fall on the taxpayers in terms of increased rates ! They should pay the rate that actually funds these infrastructure improvements

Environmental degradation is inevitable with these data centers so long as no incentive exists for clean and renewable energy in this country. Wildlife displacement, air and noise pollution, potential leaks from the center’s water system, and an increase in our electricity bills are just some of the things we can look forward to in Boone if this moves forward. Reject this proposal in its entirety and prioritize this community over private interests.
