I am writing as an LMU student or parent. I am signing this petition with my full, real name. I am happy with LMU overall, but increasingly frustrated with the dining situation. I understand that Roski is open and fully operational. I understand there is a shuttle, that meal exchange information is available online and around campus, and that the Lair closure is temporary.

However, no opening date has been announced, and a significant number of students are already running out or have run out of Dining Dollars. Students are not simply choosing not to eat at Roski or failing to understand their meal plans. They are trying to navigate a dining system that is operating differently from what families reasonably expected when we were required to purchase one of the top two meal plans.

The LMU parent groups are filled with these stories. Parents are reporting students skipping meals, spending significant additional money off campus, struggling to find healthy and convenient options, spending excessive time looking for food, and, finally, running out of Dining Dollars.

What is LMU going to do for students who are already running low on or have exhausted their Dining Dollars? Families were required to purchase these meal plans, and many are now spending additional money simply to make sure their students can eat. This situation is not sustainable.

LMU must provide a financial remedy ASAP, whether that means additional Dining Dollars, a meal-plan credit, or another appropriate adjustment.

LMU cannot continue to characterize the on-campus dining situation as a temporary inconvenience. What we need now is a fair response to the additional financial burden this has placed on students and their families, along with clear timeline for Lair reopening.

Those of us who will be on campus for Family Weekend plan to convene to address matters in person if we do not get a response before then. Thank you for your prompt attention and remedy.

My child is almost out of $. Some classes in UHall; Roski should be a good option. Chooses not to eat there-including not eating at all- because: -Wait times too long to eat between classes. -Salad bar -useless as a meal. Lettuce, shredded carrots, cherry tomatoes, MAYBE a bean/egg. -The proteins look “grey.” >2 hr wait for on-campus chain food. AND add insult- the micro-fridge we rented doesn’t work/isn’t fixed, so no in-room nuke option!

This situation has been badly mismanaged and is unacceptable. My daughter is skipping meals and living off of Starbucks and Qdoba due to lack of easily available fresh options. I sent an email to 6 parties in leadership two weeks ago and received not a single reply. We are fed up.

My student is barely using her meals swipes, because she doesn’t think the food is good, also she thinks it’s too far, she is in Palm North

My son is a senior and has been using Roski and Meal Exchanges, but his Dining Dollars are already exhausted while he still has many meals remaining. I’m already adding S-Dollars for other food on campus. I hope LMU will consider returning to a declining-balance system, allowing students to use their meal-plan funds more flexibly for food across campus.

My son is used to healthy well rounded meals. There is no option for this. Food choices are limited at Roski, even if there is food the choices are not appealing or cold and the salad bar is pathetic. Sizzler does a better job. Qdoba has minimal choices, long wait times up to two hours, out of steak most days. For a full time student t with a busy schedule this is all very inconvenient. He has classes to attend. He can not wait around to eat. He is eating maybe, if lucky two meals a day.

My daughter has been living on one meal as she doesn’t have time to go to roski in between classes. We have already put around 500 extra dollars for food. Also the during the weekends food options are limited.

My daughter, first year student, ran out of dining dollars in 3 weeks. I spent hundreds of dollars on door dash as Roski closes to early after her late classes and she can't get there before her 8 AM class.

My son is hungry all the time. He and the other students aren't getting the nutrition they need and deserve. This is unacceptable and he doesn't have time to eat between classes. With an increase in tuition and a decrease in food options and availability, this is not a good start to the year.
