Leave Lakes of Prosper at Reynolds Middle School
PETITION TO PROSPER ISD
Request to Keep Lakes of Prosper and Villages of Prosper Trail Zoned to Reynolds Middle School
To: Prosper Independent School District Board of Trustees and District Administration
Subject: Request for Reconsideration of Proposed Watkins Middle School Attendance Boundaries
We, the undersigned residents and families of Lakes of Prosper and Villages of Prosper, respectfully petition Prosper Independent School District to reconsider the proposed 2027–2028 middle school attendance boundaries that would reassign our neighborhoods from Reynolds Middle School to Watkins Middle School.
We recognize that Prosper ISD is experiencing significant growth and that opening Watkins Middle School is an important part of accommodating our growing community. We support responsible planning for that growth. However, we believe attendance-boundary decisions must prioritize not only enrollment numbers and campus capacity, but also student safety, practical access, pedestrian infrastructure, and the real-world conditions students will encounter traveling to and from school.
Our Primary Concern: Student Safety
The proposed reassignment raises serious concerns about the routes students may need to travel between our neighborhoods and Watkins Middle School, located at 605 E. 7th Street in Prosper.
The Dallas North Tollway/Dallas Parkway corridor and the Frontier Parkway/Prosper Trail area present concerns that warrant careful, data-supported evaluation. Traffic volumes, vehicle crashes, road construction, pedestrian crossings, sidewalk availability, and the distance students must travel should all be considered before attendance boundaries are finalized.
For families in Lakes of Prosper and Villages of Prosper, this is not simply a question of which school our children attend. It is a question of whether the proposed assignment provides safe and practical access for our children EVERY DAY.
Why We Are Requesting Reconsideration
1. Safe and Reasonable Walking Routes
We ask the district to evaluate the actual routes students would use to walk between our neighborhoods and Watkins Middle School, including the availability and continuity of sidewalks, safe street crossings, intersections, traffic exposure, and the feasibility of walking during peak traffic hours.
2. Traffic and Roadway Safety
We request that the district review available vehicle-crash and pedestrian-incident data, traffic volumes, roadway design, and planned or ongoing construction affecting the Dallas Parkway and Prosper Trail/Frontier Parkway areas. This information has been requested from TxDot and will be shared the families accordingly. These conditions should be evaluated in relation to the routes students would realistically travel.
3. After-School Activities and Student Independence
Students do not always leave school at the end of the regular dismissal period. Tutoring, athletics, clubs, extracurricular activities, and other commitments can create transportation needs outside normal bus schedules. Not every student will have access to a parent pickup or a bus route at every time of day.
Boundary decisions should account for how students will safely get home after these activities, not just how they arrive at school in the morning.
4. A Fair Comparison of Reynolds and Watkins
We ask Prosper ISD to conduct a transparent comparison of assigning Lakes of Prosper and Villages of Prosper to Reynolds Middle School versus Watkins Middle School. This comparison should consider enrollment and campus capacity alongside walking distances, roadway conditions, pedestrian infrastructure, transportation availability, construction impacts, and overall student safety.
Our Requested Action
We respectfully ask Prosper ISD to:
- Reconsider the proposed reassignment of Lakes of Prosper and Villages of Prosper to Watkins Middle School and seriously consider retaining both neighborhoods within Reynolds Middle School’s attendance boundaries.
- Review and share relevant traffic-crash records, pedestrian incidents, traffic-volume information, and available roadway safety assessments for the affected corridors.
- Evaluate actual student walking routes, sidewalk connectivity, crossing locations, and after-school travel conditions.
- Explain how student pedestrian safety and transportation access were weighed against enrollment, capacity, and other boundary-planning considerations.
- Provide families with the findings and rationale supporting the proposed boundaries before a final decision is made.
We believe these requests are reasonable, responsible, and consistent with the district’s obligation to make thoughtful decisions in the best interests of students and families.
Our Commitment to Our Community
We are not asking the district to disregard its growth challenges. We are asking that the impact on our neighborhoods and, most importantly, the safety of our children receive the careful consideration they deserve.
Once attendance boundaries are established, families must organize transportation, extracurricular schedules, and daily routines around those decisions. We believe the district should thoroughly evaluate the available evidence and consider safer, more practical alternatives before finalizing a boundary change that affects our community.
We respectfully request that Prosper ISD retain Lakes of Prosper and Villages of Prosper within Reynolds Middle School’s attendance boundaries for the 2027–2028 school year, unless and until the district has fully evaluated and transparently addressed the safety and accessibility concerns associated with the proposed reassignment.
By signing below, we affirm our support for this request and ask Prosper ISD leadership to give these concerns meaningful consideration.
Our goal is simple: safe routes for our children, transparent decision-making, and attendance boundaries that serve our students and community responsibly.

Safety! The distance and crossing of the tollway is insane for a neighborhood with several kids who walk and bike.
Reynolds is closest to our neighborhood and east of tollway. The amount of vehicular accidents at the corners of the DNT and Prosper Trail are far too many. Now adding more congestion, coupled with construction and kids trying to e-bike to and from school through here — makes no sense.
It makes zero sense for LOP to be rezoned to a school at least twice as far away and with highways to cross.
It’s completely illogical to move our kids to a school on the other side of the tollway. Lakes of Prosper is a developed, established neighborhood that is not adding more homes. Students in neighborhoods that are continuing to build and grow should be zoned to the new schools.
I do not want my grandkids going that far from home when there is a middle school a mile away,
These LoP kids have been rezoned multiple times already. Many of them have spent years looking forward to going to Reynolds, some watching their siblings go through middle school there.
The established school is doing a great job. These kids and their older siblings all went there

Students & parents in these neighborhoods have worked hard to establish routines & relationships with administrators, teachers, & staff. For these to be uprooted & eliminated would be a disservice to ALL involved. The distance…not logical!
