Preserve Key Biscayne’s Youth Soccer Program
To the Village of Key Biscayne Council and Village Athletics Advisory Board:
We, the undersigned, ask the Village to preserve substantially the same youth soccer opportunities available to Key Biscayne children today.
Our children should continue to have access to recreational and competitive soccer that serves different ages, abilities, and aspirations. We are concerned that the proposed restructuring would eliminate U8–U12 travel soccer, limit older competitive age groups to A and B teams, and shorten intramural soccer to December through May.
We ask the Village to protect:
* U8–U12 travel soccer, alongside a strong recreational program.
* Multiple competitive levels, including C or equivalent development teams where demand supports viable teams.
* Current seasonal opportunities, including fall soccer.
* Viable pathways for girls and older teenagers.
* Sufficient field access and continuity through any change of operator.
This petition supports the soccer program and the children it serves. Signing does not require supporting any particular club, operator, or management team.
We welcome stronger residency verification, resident registration priority, appropriate roster sizes, transparent team selection, better coaching oversight, and meaningful opportunities for children to develop and play.
We also support age-appropriate health safeguards, including adequate rest and reasonable training demands. Before using health concerns to justify eliminating younger travel teams, the Village should obtain an independent pediatric sports-medicine assessment of the actual program and consider targeted improvements.
Before approving reductions in soccer opportunities, we ask the Village to publish a verified assessment of the resident children affected, confirm the feasibility of proposed field arrangements, and hold an accessible public workshop where families can review alternatives.
We ask the Village to base recreation planning on the community it serves today, using current population and demographic data, youth participation, waiting lists, and residents’ needs. As community needs evolve, public services, investment, and access to recreational space should adapt accordingly.
The Village should actively pursue additional public spaces and partnerships for soccer and other sports, evaluate underused areas, improve existing facilities, and explore shared-use agreements with schools and nearby institutions. Before reducing established programs because of limited space, it should demonstrate that it has meaningfully evaluated alternatives to expand capacity and improve scheduling, while protecting access for other sports and unstructured play.
We urge the VAAB to recommend, and the Village Council to adopt, explicit protections for these opportunities in any future soccer program or request for proposals. During that review, the Village should maintain program continuity and give families clear information before registration and tryouts.
Our shared goal is to preserve and improve a soccer program that serves Key Biscayne’s children at every stage of their development.

I strongly support this petition to preserve the KBSC competitive soccer program and ensure the continuity of our coaches. This program represents so much more than soccer for our children. It is a place where they have grown not only as players but also as individuals, developing disciplines, commitment, teamwork, and important life values.
This is, without question, the best soccer program I have ever been a part of. The quality of the coaching, the structure of the program, and, most importantly, the values it instills in our children are exceptional. I have three boys who have worked their way up through this program, and I have seen firsthand the positive impact it has had on their development, both as players and as young men. We need to come together and find a solution to preserve something this special.
For my kids, belonging to the soccer team since they were little has been a fundamental part of who they are today. Making the team now in Key Biscayne has been a pure joy for them. I believe it’s important to maintain the competitive teams for young ages!
No matter who operates the program, Key Biscayne kids should have the opportunity to play the sport they love and be given the tools to grow and compete at the highest level possible.
We have one of the best programs in Miami.
