We are asking Suffolk County to install a left turn signal at North Ocean Ave and Shaber Rd.
Right now, there are three lights on North Ocean Ave: two over the straight lanes and one over the left turn lane. But all three lights work together, which makes the turn lane less safe and less efficient than it should be. A dedicated left turn signal would give drivers a clear chance to turn without confusion and would help improve traffic flow at this busy intersection.
This is a simple change, but it would make a real difference for everyone who uses this road. When left turns have their own signal, it helps reduce delay, lowers the chance of conflict between cars going straight and cars turning, and makes the intersection easier to understand for drivers.
Because this is a county road, Suffolk County has the authority to make this improvement. We are asking the county to review the intersection and install a left turn signal over the turn lane at North Ocean Ave and Shaber Rd as soon as possible.
We urge Suffolk County to act on this request and make this intersection safer and more workable for the community.
I grew up living right at that intersection, with one accident happening and landing in my driveway. I have heard and seen way too many and some deadly accidents. It’s really awful and have a turn signal could potentially prevent a lot from happening
