Ever since road construction began around May, the temporary traffic signal timing at the intersection of Friendship Rd / Battleview Dr and Canton Hwy has caused severe traffic congestion during peak morning and afternoon commute hours.
Drivers traveling from Friendship Rd / Battleview Dr routinely wait through 4 to 7 traffic light cycles (upwards of 15–20 minutes) during morning (7:00 AM) and afternoon (4:00 PM) hours. Meanwhile, the signal holds green for extended periods on Canton Hwy even when no vehicles are present or passing through.
GDOT District 1 Traffic Operations has confirmed this intersection is inside active construction project 0003682, which is managed by the GDOT Area 1 Office. Residents have been referred back and forth without a resolution.
What we are requesting: We, the undersigned residents, commuters, and neighbors of Forsyth County (Cumming, GA 30028), respectfully request that the GDOT Area 1 Office, as manager of project 0003682, direct the project contractor to:
1. Re-calibrate or adjust the signal timing during peak morning (6:30 AM – 8:30 AM) and afternoon (3:30 PM – 5:30 PM) commute hours to allow adequate green light time for Friendship Rd / Battleview Dr drivers.
2. Inspect and reset the vehicle detection sensors/loops for the temporary signals to ensure green lights on Canton Hwy do not stay active when there is no cross-traffic.
This has caused a much longer commute for me to work having to wait through many rounds of lights. Please change the timing to what it was before!
