Decision Makers: Jeff Landry

In 2024, Governor Jeff Landry and the Louisiana Legislature delivered the largest tax cut in state history — moving from a three-bracket system topping out at 4.25% to a flat 3% individual income tax. It was a good start. But Louisiana is still one of only a shrinking number of states that taxes work and retirement income at all, while neighbors like Texas and Florida tax neither.

Full elimination is on the table right now. Governor Landry has publicly called on the Legislature to finish the job this session. But the two men who control whether it happens — Speaker of the House Phillip DeVillier and Senate President Cameron Henry — have so far signaled hesitation, citing the roughly $500 million in annual revenue each half-point of the tax represents.

We're asking all three leaders to commit to a real, funded plan to phase out the income tax entirely — not just talk about it. That means pairing elimination with responsible spending discipline, so Louisiana families and small businesses get to keep more of what they earn without blowing a hole in the state budget.

Louisiana workers deserve to keep their paychecks. Retirees deserve to keep their pensions. And Louisiana needs to compete with income-tax-free states for jobs, businesses, and young families who are leaving.

Sign this petition to tell Governor Landry, Speaker DeVillier, and Senate President Henry: don't stop at 3% — finish eliminating the income tax.

No working individual should ever be taxed for working for a living, we're being penalized for our labor. We pay consumer taxes, taxes on bills, taxes on services, homeowner taxes, taxes on gas, taxes on overtime, taxes at the motor vehicle department, and everything else, and left barely staying afloat with hardly anything to live off of after all that. We are being taxed cradle to grave. One medical emergency would sink a majority of working people. It's discouraging to pay for working!

Tax free income worked beautifully for the 8 years that I lived in Florida. Now at the age of 61 , living in Louisiana, I can't afford the cost of living here. I own my home but cannot afford to live in it anymore!

Louisiana loves to tax people who don't work in the state but live here. If we had Jobs that would pay enough to live here and work here my husband wouldn't have to work out of state

I feel that taxes on a home is illegal. We are taxed on taxes and this needs to stop.
