COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR NERGELYN PIGAR MARTINEZ -  HUMANITARIAN AND COMPASSIONATE CONSIDERATIONS

This letter is a show of community support for Ms. Nergelyn Pigar Martinez. We have been informed that there is a possibility of Nergelyn not being allowed to stay in Canada permanently and that there is a possibility of her having to depart from Canada. We want to show Immigration Canada that removing Ms. Martinez from Canada and separating her from the life she has built here would be very difficult for her, her family, friends, and community. 

We request Immigration Canada not to put Ms. Martinez in a distressing situation and we, further, want to persuade Immigration Canada to consider granting Ms. Martinez permanent residence based on humanitarian and compassionate grounds. 

Since arriving in Canada, Ms. Martinez has demonstrated determination, resilience, and a sincere desire to contribute positively to Canadian society. She has made Edmonton her home and has worked diligently to establish herself through honest employment as an Accounting Technician. Her willingness to work hard, support herself, and contribute to the Canadian workforce reflects the values of responsibility, perseverance, and integrity that strengthen our communities.

Ms. Martinez came to Canada in 2021 and settled in Edmonton, Alberta. She arrived with the goal of improving her education and creating a more secure future through study and honest work. Her path in Canada has required patience, discipline, and considerable personal effort. She did not arrive to an established professional career or an easy life. Instead, she began as a student, adapted to a new country, supported herself through different forms of employment, and gradually developed the skills and Canadian experience that now allow her to contribute in a meaningful and responsible way. 

Over approximately five years, Edmonton has become the centre of Ms. Martinez's daily life. This is where she completed her Canadian education, developed her employment record, formed personal connections, and learned how to navigate life independently. Her establishment is not based on a short or passing stay. It is the result of years of ordinary but important commitments: attending school, going to work, meeting obligations, maintaining a home, and building a future one step at a time. These efforts deserve to be viewed together as evidence of genuine attachment to Canada. 

Ms. Martinez's immediate family remains outside Canada. Her mother passed away in August 2021, around the time Ms. Martinez began her life in Canada. Her father and brother remain in the Philippines, while her sisters live outside the Philippines seeking better future as well. These circumstances underscore that Ms. Martinez's day-to-day stability is now rooted in the life she has created in Edmonton. She has developed a network of personal and professional relationships through the years she has spent here.

Requiring Ms. Martinez to leave Canada would not simply involve a change of address. It would interrupt the professional path she worked hard to develop after completing her Canadian diploma. She would lose the continuity of her employment, her home, and the familiar community in which she has become established. The education and work experience she has accumulated here represent years of effort that cannot be replaced quickly or transferred without uncertainty. Starting over would place her in a deeply difficult position after she has already invested a significant part of her adult life in building stability in Canada.

If removed, due to the underemployment and unemployment situation in the Philippines, due to her age and lack of work experience in the country, it would cause her painstaking efforts to re establish herself in the Philippines, if that were even possible. We know that she would experience considerable dislocation, and it would be very difficult, if not impossible, for her to find gainful employment if she were forced to return to the Philippines. If she is not granted permanent residence, Ms. Martinez and her family would experience considerable hardships. 

Her departure would also be felt by the people and workplaces that have come to rely upon her. Canadian communities are strengthened not only by highly visible achievements, but also by people who work steadily, care for others, meet their responsibilities, and build their lives without seeking recognition. Nergelyn’s record reflects these quiet but valuable forms of contribution. She has shown adaptability in accepting different kinds of work, determination in completing her studies, and responsibility in maintaining employment.

We recognize that permanent residence applications must be assessed according to Canada's immigration laws and requirements. Our request is not that those requirements be disregarded. Rather, we respectfully ask that Ms. Martinez's circumstances be considered with compassion and in their full context. Her life in Canada demonstrates the purpose of humanitarian consideration. It is to recognize the real human impact of removal and the value of the ties, progress, and stability that a person has developed over time. 

Ms. Martinez has already shown what she can contribute when given the opportunity to study, volunteer, and work in Canada. With permanent residence, she would be able to continue developing her accounting career, remain available to the people she supports through respite care, and build upon the stable foundation she has created in Edmonton. Her experience shows that she uses opportunity responsibly. Allowing her to remain would preserve the progress she has made and enable her to continue contributing with greater security and confidence. 

For these reasons, we respectfully support Ms. Nergelyn Pigar Martinez's application for permanent residence on humanitarian and compassionate grounds. We ask Immigration Canada to give careful weight to her years of establishment, her Canadian education, her steady history of employment, her service to others, and the hardship and disruption that would result if she were required to leave. We sincerely hope that she will be permitted to remain in Edmonton, continue the life she has built, and make Canada her permanent home. 

Every person undersigned here joins in this request.
