Chamisa Village Residents Demand Compensation

As a parent & aunt of NMSU students living in campus housing, I'm deeply concerned about the conditions my daughter/niece & fellow residents are facing. The AC unit hasn’t worked since Aug. 2025 for my niece & since Aug. 2026 for my daughter. Students/families pay significant costs for housing & expect it to be safe & properly maintained. I urge NMSU Facilities & Maintenance to fix ac units & hot water immediately, provide clear timeline for repairs, & offer financial compensation!

This is ridiculous! We pay so much only to not have access to basic amenities!

I have not had A/C since move in day and our water pressure has been on and off from the water line breaking and it being shut off for two days.

Haven’t had hot water since I got here on August 15th.

This is the second week of fluctuating water stability, and probably the second month without hot water. Not to mention all the other issues. These repairs should have be taken care of the summer. On top of that they are asking us to pay 10k a year, when essential utilities and required safety regulations aren't being met.

NMSU has consistently not provided amenities that have been promised to those that pay for them in housing. This being a lack of water or conditioning. NMSU has also had prior knowledge to these issues before move in weekend and made no attempt to fix it until they faced severe scrutiny

Just hearing what's been going on in my friend's dorm building is unbelievable. All the issues should be addressed immediately and shouldn't cause more issues for the students. The cost is insane for how they're treating the students; they should get compensation and reimbursement.

My daughter has been without hot water since move in. This is unacceptable. She should have the basic necessities and be able to focus on her studies. This should be addressed immediately and a credit applied to her account.

It's important to me to get some form of compensation due to not having hot water for a month, then having it for a few days only to not have it again.

I'm a disabled student who lives on campus year around and there has been nothing but issues since I moved in. I've had to make so many work orders and deal with poor maintenance that would severely affect my health. My work orders went largely ignored, and when they were addressed, maintenance would come in and make a big mess and leave it for me to clean. There have been 16 water outages since November of last year in Chamisa Phase II

I have been a chamisa resident and even had cold water towards the last two weeks, before school move in and I’m over it, and getting no compensation is insane and not okay. Along with not awnsering emails from family and residence is unacceptable!

This is important because I have been here the whole semester and have had no hot water and on and off a/c.

Because for how expensive it is to live here each semester, everything should be able to work for the residents and not have problems for months on end.

I have several former students residing and have had nothing but problems. My daughter was a student there and lived in these apartments. Take care of these problems as this is unacceptable and the media should be contacted.

While living in Chamisa, I have experienced several ongoing maintenance issues that have made my living situation very inconvenient. We have gone without air conditioning even after submitting multiple work orders, and we have also had repeated problems with our hot water. Although we were told the hot water issue had been fixed, we later experienced a leak that resulted in our water being shut off again. Because of these ongoing problems, I have had to find other places to shower.
