Flock Safety is a private tech company that has been installing its cameras (Automatic License Plate Readers, or "ALPRs") across the United States of America. As of today, there are at least 120,000 cameras in 49 states, and more being installed every single day.
These cameras track cars and license plates, but not by conventional means. Flock Safety ties all of its cameras into its own in-house AI software. You heard it right, these cameras are powered by and tied into AI.
Flock Safety has claimed that these cameras only track license plates, but with the power of AI behind the camera, all it would take is one update, one new instruction to the AI model and it would have facial scanning capabilities. And Flock Safety has not shown that its company morals are against the tracking of American Citizens, in fact, they have proved the opposite.
In 2024 Flock Safety launched its "Condor" variation of Flock Cameras, which are a gyroscopic line of cameras built to, "automatically detect, zoom in on, and capture high-resolution images of people and vehicles, providing around-the-clock investigative evidence.". This quote is from Flock Safety's official website. So clearly tracking people is not against the conscience of this company.
While the condor model isn't the majority of the total amount of Flock Cameras, there are still over a hundred thousand cameras in the united states, owned and operated by a company with no intentions of giving American citizens privacy.
These cameras have been used numerous times to stalk ex-girlfriends, administer traffic tickets to people without human oversight, often mistaking one car for another and giving a ticket to the wrong person. They have being installed on hiking trails where no car would ever be, and even, pointed at swimming pools and children's parks.
And another claim Flock Safety has made about its cameras, is right there in its name. Safety. They claimed these cameras would help solve crime, yet, the county in the United States with the most cameras, Harris county, right here in Texas, had 466 murders in 2023. Flock cameras began to be installed nationwide in 2024, and since then Harris county has had a whopping 3,500+ cameras put up. With all of these cameras, surely Harris county was safer right? Well apparently not, seeing as 503 murders were committed in 2025, an increase from 2023. So these cameras aren't being used to keep us safe at all.
So if you find these Orwellian, Dystopian cameras to be an invasion of your privacy, please consider signing my petition. Please share this with as many people as possible that live in Gainesville, my goal is 5,000 signatures.
It will be delivered to the Gainesville City Council once the signature goal is met. As of now, Gainesville's only Flock Camera was taken down, but, Cooke County has signed off on an 83,000$+ Contract with Flock Safety, and nearly ever other town in Cooke County has them and are actively installing them.
These Cameras will be in your neighborhood soon if they are not stopped.

The invasion of privacy as such is being enabled by Flock can quickly become a harmful weapon to control and manipulate the people it claims to “protect”. With even a hint of unbalanced power, this kind of surveillance tool can be a detriment in the wrong hands. Especially considering the fact that our government continues to grow in legal powers and unfortunately corruption. Ultimately it just seems that this level of surveillance brings more harm than good.
