The Face Coverings Regulation Bill failed to move through the legislative process and has been dropped from the parliamentary agenda. We utilized the verified signature count to demonstrate significant public opposition during our formal meetings with parliamentary offices. Tory MP Philip Hollobone is trying to get the Burka banned from the streets of UK. He is trying to pass a law to ban Muslim women wearing it. The Kettering MP said: <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
''I think it's inappropriate to cover your face in public, whether it's a burka, a balaclava or anything else.
''We are never going to get along with having a fully integrated society if a substantial minority insist on concealing their identity from everyone else.''
He has previously described the burka as ''offensive'' and ''against the British way of life''
The backbencher was one of 20 MPs drawn in a ballot for the chance to get a Private Members' Bill on the statute book.
His Face Coverings (Regulation) Bill had its first reading in the Commons today, a formality which allows the legislation to be printed.
Because Mr Hollobone was only drawn 17th in the ballot, his Bill stands little chance of progress.
But he said: ''The introduction of a Private Members' Bill is the only way I can get new legislation on to the books.
SO WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO OUR FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION? THIS IS AGAINST HUMAN RIGHTS. THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO BRING THIS LAW IN. PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION AND INVITE OTHERS AND THIS WILL BE FORWARDED TO THE GOVERNMENT on 31st july 2010.

I signed this petition in error and judging from the comments so have several others. Please remove my name, as I strongly believe that the burka is offensive and should be banned in Britain
The burka is offensive in a free society and doesn't promote inclusivity or have anything to do with religion. If I am talking to someone I want to see their face!
I find it offensive for women to wear the burka. If I went into a bank with a balaclava they would not serve me. You need facial contact to interact with people.
If the EU can back the decision of France, to ban the burka, there is absolutely no reason why Britain should not do the same.
France has done it and its been upheld after court action, why can't we follow our EEC partner.
Anything that oppresses women needs to stop

I THINK The Burka should NOT Be Allowed on the streets, Here in Toronto, 2 Men were wearing the Burka and dressed just like a Muslim Woman,. went into a Jewlery store and robbed it of almost One Million Dollars of Jewlery There fore it is NOT safe to allow the wearing of the Burka outside the home, Now make it a Law , = NO BURKA's On the streets in any Country !
