Zero Tolerance on the Abuse of Hare Krishna Children

Please do the right thing and uphold the highest level of integrity that our Founder Acarya His Divine A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada demanded of all of you! If you are not able to protect your dependants, please leave your position of leading our beloved ISKCON movement to someone who will! All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I fully support an independent, transparent and accountable CPO. All children deserve to live and learn in an environment that is safe and free from abuse. If ISKCON is to continue to provide education and establish and run schools then there must be ample and strong support for the authorities that ensure the protection of the children. Anything less is unacceptable. I grew up in the movement and have attended gurukula, this is not something to compromise on. Child protection is the most important aspect of a society, buildings and personal prestige are useless if there is no future because the next generation has not been protected.

Abuse of children is an abominable crime. Protection of known child abusers is even more abominable! Clearly, such persons have no understanding that Krishna sees everything, and Yamaraja records everything. Committing sinful activities on the strength of chanting the holy name is the greatest offense.

I have watched the video,this behaviour is unacceptable, these individuals should be removed from any positions they may have,as well the ones who supports them.They should be definitely be dealt with by an independent adjudicator. And i do think $9000 is an insult it really shows the lack of care. The protection of the perpetretors is evidently paramount,and the care for the abused children is totally inadequate and the office of CPO is certainly not fit for purpose. My family are behind you,Sanaka.

Srila Prabhupada said that children should not be "ill-treated." Rather, they should be protected, and it is the father's duty to protect. Where there is no father, then other elders must protect the children. The CPO is ISKCON's effort to provide elders to protect the children, but each of us is responsible to protect the devotee children on our own volition, individually. Krsna is watching. We are all accountable. The CPO must mirror our collective responsibility. That's why the CPO has to be accountable to all of us.

This cannot and should not be tolerated. ISKCON says similarly, but act differently. Please stop being hypocrites and stop tolerating abuse, especially of our kids.

I heartily commend you on your sincere efforts and hard work on a most unpalatable but necessary task -- uprooting and destroying the insidious disease of child abuse (among other forms of abuse, including abuse of our dear Godsisters), which has crept into Srila Prabhupada's movement and is tarnishing his good name. Prabhupada clearly instructed: "These children are given to us by Krishna, they are Vaisnavas and we must be very careful to protect them. These are not ordinary children, they are Vaikuntha children, and we are very fortunate we can give them chance to advance further in Krishna Consciousness. That is very great responsibility, do not neglect it or be confused. Your duty is very clear. " (Srila Prabhupada letter, July 30, 1972) When I was working on abuse issues in 1999-2001, Dhira Govinda Prabhu of the CPO was very supportive and compassionate. At the time it seemed like things were progressing nicely towards an abuse free ISKCON, but apparently not. May Krishna and Srila Prabhupada please bless you in your noble endeavors. (That being said, I agree with Shanti Parayana dasa who wrote: "Rather than taking monies from the TOVP though (people who make a designated donation for 'A' should not have their donation redirected for 'B' notwithstanding the good cause), there could possibly be an additional percent added to each Temple's annual GBC dues. This would share the funding across a wider platform.") Thank you very much. All glories to your service.

Sanak prabhu is very courageous to bring this problem to the public realm. I pray that we will all recognize the importance of his message and support him in bringing about a cultural change in ISKCON.

Sanaka, You are my HERO!!! Bless you for perusing this pressing issue through thick and thin. I pray that you succeed where so many of us have failed. I had all but given up hope and then I saw Cost of Silence...you've made me hope again...hopefully now there will be change.

In order to be effective, the CPO (as does any department of justice/judiciary) needs to be independent, or at least have a high degree of autonomy. This is a "human nature" and institutional problem of small groups and very, very large countries issue and not just an "ISKCON" problem. Rather than taking monies from the TOVP though (people who make a designated donation for "A" should not have their donation redirected for "B" notwithstanding the good cause), there could possibly be an additional percent added to each Temple's annual GBC dues. This would share the funding across a wider platform.
