Final supporters
Besides what it already has done to Zahm this year, Notre Dame's administration has decided to take Zahm's common rooms away, to reconfigure the House, and to change room picks at the last minute (the previous petition was disregarded by the administration: www.ipetitions.com/petition/save-zahm-common-rooms).
Since ND reslife and housing have tried to destroy Zahm, the closest-knit community of the University with which we or our sons identify, and since they won’t listen to its residents and alumni and their parents,
we pledge to withhold all financial contributions or merely to make the official minimum annual donation necessary for football lottery participation to the University in perpetuity until and unless:
(1) the common rooms/room configurations/bedspaces/room picks are restored,
(2) authorities cease their punitiveness, and
(3) the uniqueness of ND’s traditional hall system is upheld.
If the ND “family” that administrators talk about is more than simply rhetoric, the situation needs to be addressed.

-Class of '82. I support my Son and the Zahm's residents in preserving what is at the hearth of the Zahm House. I agree that in common rooms, is where the bonds of friendship and sense of community is fostered in the dorms.
This action will curtail the strong bonds, loyalties and friendships that define Notre Dame. Common rooms are the backbone of the Zahm community, and are a literal venue for daily social interaction. Unfortunately, this action fits ResLife's pattern of over-lawyering and over-reacting to achieve counterproductive results.
We take pride in the personality we give to our common rooms and value the community that they help to promote. Introducing these "university lounges" will make these spaces less conducive to such a community by creating a sterile "cookie cutter" room that will feel more like the university's space than our own.
Soon-to-be Double Domer: BSEE '09, JD '15. Many donation-giving years are ahead. I refuse to contribute to ND until this integral part of Zahm is safe.
As a freshman, the common rooms have been essential in making me feel part of the Zahm and Notre Dame community, and I will never contribute financially to a university that would take that away from current and future students.
I'll be giving millions to charity in my last few years, but none of it will go to Notre Dame.
This decision by the current leadership of the University is a disgrace. This is truly the first time that I have been ashamed to be associated with Notre Dame; indeed the first time that I've ever found the leadership to be truly hypocritical. I love Notre Dame, have contributed greatly to its tradition and success, and have represented the University at the highest level as a proud graduate. My experiences with my brothers in Zahm House serve to this day as the very foundation of these feelings. It is my sincere hope that those involved in doing away with Zahm's strongest and most unique community on campus will soon come to their senses and do the right thing. Until then, I will choose to donate my hard-earned money to more deserving causes.

Unfortunately, the university feels that it needs to support its growing campaign to whitewash, standardize, and nullify student traditions on campus. As an alum, I will not support this.
