I will not donate to Rensselaer until the future of the Student Union is assured.
The President and administration of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute continue to attack the student run nature of the RPI Student Union and the free speech rights of the students and faculty.
We firmly believe that the nature of the Student Union, its associated charter, by-laws, and inclusion as a student governed organization with full rights of self determination should remain unchanged, as they have for the past 125 years.
Furthermore, the abridgment of student free speech rights in the form of: a) the denial of the right to stage an orderly, non violent protest and b) the removal, without prior notification, of the right of students to put up protesting posters within existing regulations are both simply wrong.
Therefore, until such time as these rights are restored, the self determination of the Student Union is assured, and policies are put in place to assure these rights will remain unabridged in the future, we, the undersigned, will be withholding all financial and material support to Rensselaer.

The reach of this petition has captured the attention of local media outlets. I have scheduled a briefing with reporters to detail our specific demands regarding the Student Union charter. We are finalizing a formal letter to the administration to document these grievances.

I used to be so proud to donate at a fairly high level. Stopped a few years ago due to just this reason.
We are just approaching the financial position to donate with comfort. Not happening until communications with and respect for are affirmed. Not just for students, but staff and faculty and alumnni as well.

It is time for President Jackson to return to government service.

I'm only hearing bad things about Shirley, Never any good ones.
Stop trying to ruin the only good thing in student quality of life at RPI.
