As early as April 12th, 2012, CUPE 3903, the union for teaching assistants and contract faculty at York University in Toronto, ON, could go on strike. This will be the second strike at York U in under 4 years.
York University has a rich history of labour disputes, and the students have no formal mechanisms to express their concerns, even though they suffer the most. This petition is designed to urge both CUPE 3903 & the administration of York University to come to a settlement in a way that will avoid a strike.
Signing this petition does not make you anti-CUPE or anti-admin; it doesn't even make you pro-CUPE or pro-admin. It makes you pro-student by being anti-strike. As students, let us stand together and make our voices heard!
I honestly never expected this many people to feel the same way about the potential strike. Seeing 250 of you sign this makes me realize just how many students are worried about our semester. This really belongs to all of you who took a moment to show support.

I am honestly a bit overwhelmed by the momentum this has gained lately. This movement belongs entirely to the students who are tired of being caught in the middle of these disputes. It is humbling to see that so many of you felt the same way I did when I first started this.

I honestly never expected this many people to feel the same frustration about the potential strike. Seeing one hundred names on this list is entirely due to all of you speaking up.
