The referendum and drive for Brexit has been hugely damaging to York, and to the whole of the UK.
We must stop Brexit, so that we can move on to the issues underlaying the leave vote in the referendum.
Without the EU it will be harder to deal with the climate crisis, to have the economy that will allow us to reverse the cuts to our schools and protect our NHS, and to rebuild our fractured society.
63% of York’s exports go to the EU, the highest proportion across our county, so jobs are at risk locally. Families who face been torn apart by the Government making EU citizens bargaining chips.
1,300 nurses from the EU applied to work here in the month before the referendum. Within the year that monthly figure had dropped to just 46, leaving one in ten nursing posts vacant.
The Prime Minister might have made vague election promises to suspend fracking, but it's EU environmental regulation that we really need to protect us from the practice.
We all know that the referendum was won on false promises (all that extra money for the NHS?), illegal election practices (The Electoral Commission leveled a record fine, but can't cancel the result of a 'non-binding' vote) and outright lies (An EU Army?!?) It's time to call a stop to it.

Our best deal is to remain in the EU. Any other deal is inferior. We need to continue to collaborate and work together for the benefit of all, to be at the table to influence decisions and not just have to accept terms and conditions imposed on the UK if we want to trade with the EU in the future.

We will be much diminished as a nation by leaving the EU. To make Britain great again we need to be working with other countries not on our own.

I am a French national who has lived in UK for most of her life.
I feel that we have all better chances, better opportunities and will be stronger if we stay together in Europe. In a few years, countries like ours won't have much influence at the big world table where decisions are made. We might end up as spectators rather than actors. This will be bad for all of us. An isolated UK won't stand a chance

We were not such a divided country when in the EU, so it shows remaining is definitely the better option for all of us, not to speak about all the benefits that EU membership bestows on all of us individually and collectively.

Time to stop blind act of self-harm: nothing will be as good as our membership despite its shortcomings. Need a seat at the table to influences from within. Years & years of mayhem would follow with or without deal. Need to concentrate on domestic issues, distance ourselves from Trumpland & work with our nearest neighbours. Anything else madness.

There is hope, we must keep campaigning to remain.
This won’t fix the underlying issue though; we need to address growing inequality and the climate crisis. We need a government who will not just make hollow promises but act to in our interests to protect our society against these threats.

Why should anyone be treat like a second class citizan ? My partner has worked and lived in the uk for 20 years some people i know have lived here longer than Ive been alive /in the uk .......and now they have to fill a form in to decide if they stay or go ...NO NO NO this is not a way to unify us and celebrate diversity .....this is all wrong ....we need an opportunity to discuss further and hav eour voices heard .
