Recently Beachwood Place Mall in Beachwood Ohio has created a new Parental Guidance Requirement (PGR) rule that requires "All shoppers under the age of 18 to be accompanied by an adult age 21 or older after 5 PM on all Fridays and Saturdays." This rule will be implemented Friday, January 6. The mall has issued this rule following a recent disturbance made by over 100 teens on December 26th. This new rule was issued to keep the mall a "safer" place with fewer teens loitering. However, we believe this new rule to be unfair as it restricts many young people who have no negative intentions and are simply visiting the mall to make a purchase. More realistic alternatives to this rule are available such as modifying the restriction to entertain a legal driver with a feasible drivers license for verification. Additionally an adjustment to allow said driver to be accompanied by 1 to 2 guest would allow stores in the mall to still maintain teenage business on the weekends which is the most popular time for teens to be shopping. This petition hopes to shed light on this newly created rule and hopefully lighten and or end its strict restrictions on teen shoppers.
