We petition TELSTRA to leave the Yaninee Payphone in place. We believe that the payphone service is important to the safety of our community. Should the phone only be used once a year to save a life, that life is worth the cost of a payphone service.
We would like to offer the following compelling reasons, which we feel show that Telstra would be failing in the provision of its Universal Service Standard Obligation, should the payphone be removed.
- There is no functional mobile communication service in Yaninee
- Travellers using the Eyre highway have no emergency phone access if the payphone is removed
- The payphone works during a community-wide power failure

When the power goes out the mobile towers go down too. This phone is our only lifeline left. KEEP IT.
