I am a parent of a student in St. FXSS. We have spent a considerably big amount on the spirit wear in question. To say that they get to wear it for only one or two days in a year, is a total waste of our hard earned money and a waste of the world’s resources. It seems to be a ploy to make the school and McCarthy’s rich at our expense. Please allow the students to wear them to school. Going forward, just introduce a badge that can be worn on the regular school uniform (with a Velcro fastener) so that we do not have to buy the costly spirit wear.

Other schools in our board have so much more freedom. I feel a rebellion coming on.

As a person who also goes a Catholic school who has a McCarthy uniform, I agree that the quality of the uniforms are crappy. It sucks that we have to pay so much for something that doesn't even provide us warmth.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind wearing school uniform IF THE SCHOOL HAD PROPER HEATING.

I don't pay 40 bucks to enjoy my Xavier sweater, I pay 40 bucks to not be able to enjoy my Xavier sweater because we're not allowed to?

This is indeed a safety issue. An intruder is quite easily able to get a sweater that says "Xavier" on it as opposed to the official uniform only students can buy from McCarthy. However, the administration and the Parent Council (this is who's responsible for the current uniform and any uniform changes) should look into getting uniform items that is not a similar texture of cardboard, one that keeps students warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Best of luck! Great initiative!

Today I was told by one of my teachers that one of the reasons the uniform is so strictly enforced is for safety issues. If there is an intruder in the school, we wouldn't be able to tell the difference between them and a student who is wearing a sweater on top of their uniform. But if a student is wearing spirit wear with XAVIER on the front, they are just as identifiable as a student in full "uniform". It's not a reasonable excuse. Students pay $$ for spirit wear and aren't able to wear it at school? The place that the sweater belongs to? FX needs to review its policy.

The uniform is too strict. There are better things to worry about. How about enforcing the teachers to teach at the level which students understand? Because from my experience from attending FX in the past years, I have understood more core concepts in a single class of college than 4 years in high school. Or the fact that teachers are biased or rude or what not to certain students? The fact that all their time and effort is enforcing this stupid uniform is ridiculous. Just because a student wants to wear an article of clothing that is involved with the school, purchased from the school, why shouldn't they be allowed to wear them with the uniform underneath? The rugbys are cardboard and My high school experience was affected negatively because of this factor. Fix up FX.

Why not wear the sweaters we played for, the uniforms were expensive enough, we played for the sweaters, it our money our sweater.

Either address the issue with making the rugby sweaters with a more insulated material or allow students to keep warm. If students aren't function at their individual comfort levels (which vary with every student), it could be detrimental to their focus ( drive reduction theory ) and also their learning. Different people have different metabolic rates and ultimately require different methods of heat regulation and should always be taken into consideration. Without administrators and teachers evaluating the effectiveness of the manditory rugby sweater during the colder months, I think that students should be allowed to keep themselves warn with extra clothing. Good luck

I agree with this, spirit wear can be costly and we should be able to wear it as long as property unifrom is worn underneath.
